About 550 employees of Maple Leaf Foods’ Schneiders meat factory in Kitchener had to be evacuated due to an ammonia leak.
One person was taken to hospital after the leak was detected on the 7th floor of the factory.
It halted production at the plant for hours and forced nearby residents to stay indoors.
Officials say two leaks, involving about 500 pounds of liquid ammonia were found.
One leak was in an air conditioner and another in a drainage line on the plant roof.
