Alligators sent to Hamilton after removal from Stoufville home

Hamilton, ON, Canada / AM900 CHML

Two large alligators, removed from a home north of Toronto, have been brought to Hamilton.

The OSPCA was called to a property in Stouffville after complaints from neighbours about the 1 1/2 metre long reptiles.  The alligators were apparently being kept as family pets in a backyard shed.

They were temporarily transferred to Hamilton, before being moved on Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo in Ottawa.

All of this comes one day after Little Ray’s Barton Street location was granted an exemption from the Responsible Pet Ownership By-law, allowing it to display some prohibited exotic reptiles.  The exemption will take effect once it has received its pending accreditation from the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
