Hamilton is not the hotbed for registered sex offenders in the province as was previously thought.
Last week Global News obtained data from the province after a 6 year court battle that revealed Hamilton had the highest concentration of registered sex offenders per capita in Southern Ontario; but that data was from 2008.
Current numbers from 2014 indicate Hamilton has dropped to third, with London and Kingston now housing the most registered offenders.
Hamilton’s Ward 1 showed the biggest increases. The Westdale-Ainslee Wood area went from 8 to 19, while the Kirkendall neighbourhood went from 38 to 52.
Overall, the five central city postal codes have 260 registered sex offenders, up from about 200 in 2008.
A total of 1,140 registered sex offenders have been added to the provincial list since 2008, however it appears that the OPP don’t know where 102 of them live, 24 of them are missing postal codes and 78 have no fixed address.
