Anyone who has been in the Hammer for a few years knows there has been an active movement to attract attention to the 100 plus waterfalls that grace Hamilton and the escarpment.
This was largely driven by a man named Chris Ecklund who was determined to crown Hamilton the City of Waterfalls and the Waterfall Capital of the World.
Many thought it was a cute idea but never really appreciated the draw of the falls, which most of us take for granted.
Ecklund created a website, www.cityofwaterfalls.ca wrapped up his personal vehicle in a waterfall portrait and hit the street.
His idea has caught on.
Tourism Hamilton reports now the most sought after pamphlet and on line search item in their offices is for information on Hamilton’s waterfalls.
It’s no wonder MSN Travel recently featured a great piece on the attractions.
‘Canada’s most underrated places’ was the headline of the feature. Goodbye ‘Armpit of Ontario,’ hello ‘City of Waterfalls’ was dedicated to Hamilton…
This type of publicity is hard to put a price on.
One thing is certain, Chris Ecklund was right.
