The SPCA says a total of 19 animals were pulled from an east Hamilton home where a 3 year old boy was removed by the Children’s Aid Society.
The agency adds that of the 19, all but three are dead.
Investigators found two dead cats and a dead bird inside. One dog and 14 more cats were in such poor condition they had to be euthanized.
Two dogs were well enough that after being cleaned up and treated for fleas, they were adopted. One more dog is being cared for, and should be well enough to be adopted next week.
The CAS’s Dominic Verticchio says the home was not fit for human residency as it was filled with garbage, dead animals and feces adding there are mental health issues that affected the condition of the home.
The 3 year-old boy remains in the care of CAS, where he is said to be doing well. Hamilton police will be contacted if charges are recommended by the agency.
