Farr calls for new approach to combat Hess violence

Hamilton, ON, Canada / AM900 CHML

Following yet another stabbing at Hess Village this past weekend, downtown councillor Jason Farr thinks it may be time to take a different approach to controlling the situation in the entertainment district.

He says the city and the police need to focus on the one or two establishments in Hess where most of the problems seem to be occurring.

He won’t name names, but Farr suggests those establishments are attracting a less than desirable clientele and taking away from the many good things that are happening at Hess.

He points to Toronto where the city makes it difficult for problem bar owners to renew their licence’s unless certain conditions are met such as hiring private security guards inside the bars.

  1. So why has it taken so long to come up with this idea? It’s a good one, but duh, how many fights, stabbings and sexual molestations has it taken to get to it? Far too many!

It’s time our city council, who cannot help but know that there are serious problems with Hess Village (like its very existence) got on with it and started actively becoming a part of the solution instead of simply ringing its hands in angst.
