We are being warned to expect more visible emissions from ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s facility over the next week.
The company has issued the advisory as it replaces pipes at one of its byproducts plants.
It says that plant normally consumes coke oven gas.
The company’s general manager of environment says the flares from the gas may be visible to the community and there may be some occasional visible emissions as the flares are managed.
But he says all efforts will be made to minimize the environmental impact of the flare.
This comes after Environment Hamilton said on Friday that ArcelorMittal Dofasco has been given a “sweetheart deal.”
It released a trail of email in which Ministry officials said they don’t intend to pursue further investigation into the Hamilton coke plant “that may or may not result in charges ” over the next five years.
The company has committed to spend 87-million dollars in upgrades by 2019.
