Report into “toxic” HSR calls for leadership change

Hamilton, ON, Canada / AM900 CHML

As city council prepares to look at a confidential report into a sexual harassment complaint at the HSR, female bus drivers are speaking out.

The drivers tell the Spectator they face a toxic workplace that includes sexist jokes, profane insults and inappropriate touching.

City manager Chris Murray’s report will be presented Wednesday night and will include a proposed leadership change at the HSR after an arbitrator’s decision last year found a female inspector was sexually harassed by a superior.

The report doesn’t call for any managers to be fired, including HSR director Don Hull, but it does suggest a new HSR director position.

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 107 president Eric Tuck says his membership “wants to see serious changes at the top.”
