Russ Powers is declaring an end to his career in municipal politics.
The Dundas councillor has announced that he will not seek re-election in the fall, having served the community at the local level for 27 years.
Powers also served a term as the federal M-P for Dundas and surrounding areas under the Liberal banner, from 2004-to-2006. He’s not ruling out a future bid to return at the federal level citing the redistribution of the riding and new leadership under Justin Trudeau.
There will be several new faces on City Council after this fall’s election.
Ward 1 Councillor Brian McHattie and Ward 9 Councillor Brad Clark are running for mayor, with current mayor Bob Bratina not returning.
Ward 3 voters will choose a new representative in the wake of Bernie Morelli’s death. Bob Morrow is currently serving out the remainder of his term.
