Tiger-Cats drop tenth straight season opener

Hamilton, ON, Canada / AM900 CHML | Hamilton News

It was a Grey Cup rematch with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Saskatchewan to take on the Roughriders and much like the game last November it ended in a blowout for the home side.

Saskatchewan scored early and often finding points on three of their first four drives, the first being a 35 yard field goal from Chris Milo.

After Hamilton went a quick two and out the Roughriders drove 71 yards down the field capping off the drive with a 2 yard touchdown pass to Anthony Allen to make the score 10-0 for the hosts.

After Ticat punter Justin Medlock conceded a safety Anthony Allen would once again find the endzone, this time on a one yard run.

Medlock would concede another safety, this one courtesy of a botched snap that flew over the punter’s head forcing him to boot it out the back of the endzone increasing the Saskatchewan lead to 21-0.

Hamilton would finally get on the board when a punt found it’s way into the Roughrider endzone for a single point.

The Riders would increase their lead before the half thanks to another Chris Milo field goal, this one from 21 yards.

The Cats weren’t able to gain any momentum out of the break as Saskatchewan scored first in the second half, Brett Swain catching a 10 yard TD pass.

Hamilton would once again find points without their offense, increasing their total to three on a safety conceded by Milo.

It would take until the fourth quarter for Hamilton to finally find the endzone.

Zach Collaros hit Luke Tasker for a four yard touchdown bringing the score to 31-10.

Collaros managed to finish 19/33 for 159 yards with one touchdown and one interception, but was under fire all night being on the receiving end of ten sacks.

The Cats will need to shake off the crushing defeat as they are back at it on Friday night when they travel to Edmonton to take on the Eskimos.

Kickoff is at 10pm eastern, pre-game show begins at 9pm, live on 900chml.
