Bill to ban pay for plasma clinics will continue

The Wynne Majority is not going to stop plans for a ban on pay for plasma clinics including one set to open in Hamilton.

Ontario’s new Health Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins is going ahead with the legislation slated for the upcoming session.

That bill was introduced in the former session after plans were announced tht Canadian Plasma Resources intended to set up two offices, one in Hamilton at 370 Main Street East, and intended to entice donors with a 25 dollar Visa Card or a charity donation in their name.

Plasma makes up about 55 per cent of total blood volume and has life-saving properties.

Canadian donors don’t meet the demand.

So, the majority of plasma products are imported from the United States and those donors are paid.
