A city ban of honeybee killing insecticide still up in the air

Hamilton, ON, Canada / AM900 CHML | Hamilton News

The question of whether the City of Hamilton will ban insecticides suspected of killing honeybees is still up in the air.

Council says it wants to see what other levels of government are doing about neonicotinoids first, before making a decision.

Council voted today to write to the provincial and federal governments to see what they were doing to study the insecticide that is commonly used on agricultural crops.

While Ontario can’t ban them, it can ban the sale of them in the province.

Neonicotinoids have been implicated in the decline of the honeybee population, which experts say jeopardize the fate of the worldwide food supply.
