Dismissal Petition Going To Hamilton’s Chief

Hamilton, ON, Canada / AM900 CHML | Hamilton News

Hamilton’s Police Chief can expect a 700 name petition this week calling  for the dismissal of an officer.

The officer is Derek Mellor and the petition will be delivered an hour before his sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin.

Mellor’s police act misconduct charges include off-duty sex and sexting with women he came into professional contact with while working on the service’s first human trafficking initiative, called Project Rescue.

The women include witnesses, victims, and a victim’s mother.

The petition was created by Shabeeh Ahmad who works with women’s agencies.

Mellor has been suspended from duty since he was charged in December 2012.

He faced 13 charges and has pleaded guilty to nine.

In February, two dozen women marched from City Hall to police headquarters to protest the case.
