The Hamilton Tiger-Cats became the last team in the CFL to notch a win defeating the expansion Ottawa REDBLACKS 33-23 at Ron Joyce Stadium.
The Cats would open the scoring early just two plays into the game as Brandon Banks took an end around 53 yards for the touchdown, his first receiving TD of the season.
The REDBLACKS wouldn’t wait long to respond though as they took the kickoff and drove 91 yards down the field to even the score with former Ticats QB Henry Burris hitting another former Ticat in Matt Carter for a 10 yard TD.
Hamilton would find their own answer as on only their fifth offensive play of the game C.J. Gable took the handoff and rumbled 47 yards for the touchdown nearly doubling his yardage output for the entire season in a single play.
After the teams traded two and outs Ottawa would once again tie the game with Burris this time finding Marcus Henry in the endzone for the major.
After Henry’s TD kickers Justin Medlock and Brett Maher would start knocking field goals with Maher hitting from 10, 24, and 38 yards, Medlock hitting from 12, 18 and 36 yards.
It wasn’t until five minutes left in the game that someone finally found the endzone again.
After C.J. Gable took a Dan LeFevour shovel pass 82 yards to the Ottawa two yard line it was LeFevour punching in the score, his second rushing TD of the season.
Medlock would tack on another field goal, this one from 32 yards to put the game firmly out of reach and give the Cats their first win of the season.
Hamilton will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the 4-1 Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Kick-off is at 7pm.
The pregame show on CHML begins at 6:30.
