Operating a lodging home without a license has landed an out-of-province landlord a $10,000 fine.
Steven Donald, who was collecting rent from tenants living at 249 Cannon Street East in 2013, has been found guilty of running a business without a city license.
The home in question was the scene of a fatal fire in February of last year.
Marty Hazell, the city’s Senior Director of Parking and By-Law Services, notes that “It is mandatory for lodging home owners to have a license to operate”. He stresses that it is also very clearly an owner’s responsibility to provide “a clean and safe living environment.”
