A 44 year old Hamilton woman has been sentenced to more than five years in prison, after being convicted of manslaughter, stemming from a dispute over a borrowed air conditioner.
A judge at John Sopinka courthouse has handed Karen Flynn the sentence of 5 years and 56 days in the stabbing death of 56-year-old Margaret Elizabeth Steer.
He’s also described the case as “confusing and senseless”.
The stabbing happened on the 12th floor of a MacNab Street North apartment building in January.
Police say the violence erupted after Steer and her boyfriend had gone to another couple’s apartment in the building to retrieve the borrowed A/C.
Flynn was originally charged with second degree murder but pled guilty to the reduced manslaughter charge last month.
