Burlington Skyway remains closed

The Toronto bound lanes of the Burlington Skyway will remain closed until at least Monday following Thursday’s spectacular crash.

Officials have removed the dump truck that slammed into the overhead truss and construction scaffolding on the bridge.

A tractor trailer and two other vehicles have also been hauled away from the scene.

The driver of the dump truck, 34-year-old Sukhvinder Singh Rai of Brampton, faces impaired driving charges.

He will appear in Hamilton court August 22.

Police say the dump truck’s bed was raised when it slammed into the bridge Thursday afternoon.

Drivers on the Toronto bound QEW are being diverted onto the Red Hill Valley Parkway or towards the Burlington Lift Bridge.

With either route, an unprecedented amount of vehicle traffic is being forced onto Hamilton streets, causing longer delays on roads like the Linc and 403, as well as Centennial, Barton, Burlington and Cannon streets.
