Seventeen downtown Hamilton buildings have been put on the fast track for protection with a heritage designation.
Among the buildings put on the list by the city’s Heritage Committee:
The Hamilton Club, Stelco Tower and the Horizon Utilities Building.
The designation protects the structures from major alterations or outright demolition.
Nearly 900 more could be added to a the city’s heritage registry as “non-designated properties,” requiring owners to give council 60 days notice in writing of any plans to demolish or remove structures on the property.
