Two major crashes in the same stretch of the QEW in Burlington happened within hours of each other and in each case an air ambulance was required.
The second crash –at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon was the most serious.
It was a chain reaction accident that involved several vehicles in the eastbound lanes between Appleby Line and Burloak Drive.
A female passenger was ejected from a pick up when it rolled and she died at the scene.
A second female passenger in the pickup was airlifted from the scene, while a male passenger was transported by ground ambulance.
An infant in the pickup was also taken to hospital as a precaution, but is OK.
The driver, the baby’s father, suffered minor injuries.
In the first crash at about one in the afternoon the driver of a garbage truck was airlifted from the scene of a rollover as he attempted to negotiate the on-ramp to the highway from Guelph Line.
Police are still sorting out charges.
