I suppose we should be glad that the Province will move ahead with tougher penalties for distracted driving in Ontario.
The problem is, the government is on holidays until late October and we have no idea when they’ll introduce tougher penalties, or just how tough the new regulations will be.
Distracted driving is the number one killer on Ontario roads, even surpassing drinking and driving.
The law has been on the books for years now and it’s clear that the offenders know the law, they just don’t care, which is why I think they need to come down hard on the law breakers.
This applies to the lady in the black pick- up truck who was texting when the light changed at Golf Links and Kitty Murray on Monday.
When she realized she was holding up traffic, she hit the gas and made a quick right turn, almost hitting a pedestrian.
Or how about the jerk in the white truck who was texting on a two lane highway, doing 100 km/hr ?
He started drifting across the line and almost hit me head on, was the text that important that you almost killed two people ?
Sadly, we all have our own sad stories.
The tougher penalties can’t come soon enough.
People are dying unnecessarily and the government needs to act now.
