There has been a small fire at Tim Horton’s Field but it is not expected to have any impact on whether or not the stadium is ready in time for Monday’s Labour Day Classic between the Ticats and Argos.
Hamilton Fire says they were called by stadium security at around 3:30 Saturday morning about a fire in a mechanical room on the third floor.
The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.
It’s not clear what sparked the fire which caused an estimated $25,000 in damage.
Word on whether Monday’s game is a go is expected Sunday afternoon.
City officials say they won’t know until then whether they’ll be able to issue a partial occupancy permit for the facility.
The city’s director of building services says inspectors will be on site throughout the weekend to issue last-minute approvals for the health and safety issues necessary to allow fans in for the Labour Day Classic.
