Smelly Fire in Hamilton's Industrial Northeast

There was lots of smoke and a foul odour as more than 30 firefighters battled flames at the facility that handles Hamilton’s compost waste — the stuff you put in your green bins.

The centre is on Burlington Street East near Kenilworth Avenue.

The Hamilton Fire Department says the fire appears to have started in a front end loader and caused damage to the structure and a conveyor system.

At one point, the fire department had 13 units on scene, including eight trucks and relief crews.

No word yet on the damage.
