Hamilton may consider selling Jackson Square, at least the land on which it sits.
At Thursday’s General Issues Committee, city staff will present a report that says the mall owner, Yale Properties, may want to buy the land because of all the upgrades and renovations it is making to the site.
It is also considering extending it’s lease by 50 years at the very least.
City staff wants permission to enter into negotiations.
The property includes Jackson Square, and the Robert Thompson Building, The Standard Life Centre, the old Stelco Tower and One James Street North.
There’s no indication about the value of the long term lease or what the market value for the land might be.
