The province is partnering with a number of financial institutions as it seeks to find jobs for hundreds of hard to employ Hamiltonians.
Local Liberal M.P.P. Ted McMeekin has announced the “Rate Drop Rebate”, a program that offers discounted rates on lines of credit to businesses who hire those facing barriers.
The two-year, four million dollar program is specific to Hamilton, London and Ottawa and was announced at the YMCA’s Employment Centre.
The program is designed to help those with disabilities, newcomers to Canada, long-term or older job seekers and others who face barriers.
McMeekin adds that the “Y” is a great place to house it, since it has a long history of helping difficult to employ youth.
The CIBC, Meridian Credit Union and First Ontario Credit Union are on board as funding partners.
