A 27 year old Hamilton man has been charged with first degree murder in a case that started out as a suspicious death.
The body of 34 year old Jenna Gazzola was found in her Forest Avenue apartment Monday morning.
Gazzola had been teaching at the St. Charles Adult and Continuing Education Centre.
Hamilton police say Shane Shakeshaft was arrested Monday night after being released from hospital for treatment of erratic behaviour.
He is reported to have lived in the unit next door to the victim.
A post mortem was conducted Tuesday and while a cause of death has not been released, investigators have confirmed a firearm was not used.
Police say there were signs of forced entry and a struggle Gazzola’s apartment.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers.
Shakeshaft is due to appear before a judge again on April 26.
