Telephone and computer fraud targetting seniors continues to be a significant issue for Hamilton Police.
That from Detective Sergaent Dave Dunbar who has presented an annual report to the city’s police services board.
He notes that reported incidents last year involving the “grandparent” scam, “Canada Revenue Agency” scam and immigration scam, which totalled 111, may be just the tip of the iceberg.
Dunbar notes that seniors often don’t report such incidents due to embarassment.
He adds that quality of life issues, including neglect, are another major category of crime against seniors.
