Hamilton wants to play a leadership role as the province moves forward on an affordable housing strategy.
A motion to that effect, authored by Councillor Jason Farr, has been approved during the latest meeting of the emergency and community services committee.
Among other things, Hamilton hopes to be selected as one of three communities selected for a portable housing benefit pilot program for survivors of domestic violence.
The province recently announced plans to invest 178 million dollars over three years in its affordable housing strategy. The federal government is also looking at a national housing strategy and funding of 2.3 billion.
