This has been quite a week for crystal balling as we get a glimpse of Hamilton’s future.
We’ve seen the innovative plans for development along Hamilton’s West Harbour area and today , we get a clearer picture of how the LRT line will look and the impact it will have on the City.
Both plans are transformational and involve some major changes and change, as we know, can make some people uncomfortable.
But without change, there can be no progress and without progress, we revert back to those dark days when jobs were leaving Hamilton and families were looking for a brighter future somewhere else.
I like the plan for the West Harbour; some of the details need to be worked out, but the waterfront is a great asset for Hamilton and we need to maximize it’s potential.
Same thing with the LRT line.
Yes, it’s going to change traffic flow in the City, but we’ve done that before and we’ve adapted to the changes.
But, on the other side of the ledger, it provides an efficient , 21st Century form of public transit that will promote economic growth along portions of the route and that’s something we’ve been wanting for Hamilton for generations.
Hamilton used to be known as ‘The Ambitious City; it looks like we’re ready to re-claim that title .
