Max’s Big ride for Duchenne muscular dystrophy is branching out this year to include Max’s big climb.
The 600 kilometre journey from Ottawa to Hamilton raises money to help find a cure for the fatal disease that affects 1 in every 35 hundred boys.
5 year old Max Sedmihradsky is currently on a drug that his father Andrew says will buy him some time but its not covered in Canada.
Which means a 71 thousand dollar bill for a three month supply.
That’s where the secondary event, Max’s big climb along Sydenham road comes into play.
“It’s an accomplishment to get up the hill itself” says Andrew Sedmihradsky.
“We’ll take the fastest 4 men and 4 women and they’ll race in knock out head to head stages until we have two finals where we’re racing for King and Queen of the mountain.
Max’s Big climb will be held on July 23rd and the big ride will take place from June 25th until July 1st.
So far the campaign has raised 36 thousand dollars in donations, double the amount when compared to this time last year.
