The International Village B-I-A is a strong critic of the preliminary design of Hamilton’s L.R.T. system.
Executive Director Susie Braithwaite says the lack of a stop within that business district “doesn’t make sense for us”.
She stresses that construction will be “hard enough for us to survive”. Braithwaite adds that as a “cooperative” partner, it doesn’t make sense to not include a stop within the business improvement area’s boundaries.
Her concerns have prompted the L.R.T. subcommittee to ask staff to look at the feasibility of such a change. The L.R.T. design will be going through a public and stakeholder consultation process before it is finalized.
There’s also an estimate from project director Paul Johnson that construction will require about 250 “property acquisitions”.
He’s hopeful that most of that can be done by Metrolinx through negotiation rather than expropriation.
