As efforts to move thousands of evacuees trapped north of Fort McMurray continue, the Canadian Red Cross says donations to help displaced residents have already hit the $11-million mark.
Now, a Hamilton company is starting a corporate challenge to raise even more funds.
Tube Mac Piping Technologies is donating 25 thousand dollars to the Red Cross and is asking other businesses in this area to do the same.
Owner Gary Mackay says a lot of Hamilton companies have generated income because of Alberta and it’s time to give back.
His company currently has six employees installing piping just north of Fort McMurray and fortunately they are all safe.
He says they’re can’t come home because there is no transportation out of the area.
MacKay says Canadians have been supportive of international emergencies and it’s now time to support our own.
