Competitive runners, kids and families are being encouraged to lace up and take a tour through the McMaster University campus next month.
McMaster Marauders Athletics has teamed up with the McMaster Children’s hospital foundation to launch the Mac Mile.
Athletic Director Glen Grunwald says it was inspired by a similar event across the border.
“There is a mile race in New York City called the Maddison avenue Mile where people run down Maddison avenue”
“We said wouldn’t that be a great event where it’s just a mile long you can be competitive if you want or you can be fun.”
The money raised through the Mac Mile will go towards supporting McMaster varsity athletes while also helping with the purchase life saving equipment for the hospitals neo-natal wing.
Vice President of Development at the hospital, Jennifer Laughton says it will be directed towards ventilators, monitors and incubators.
The Mac Mile hopes to raise 50 thousand dollars through its inaugural event, taking place June 18th.
