It’s nice to see Southern Ontario fans now have more than one option to cheer for in the world of big, corporate, professional sport.
The Raptors are turning Hockeyville into Jurassic Park advancing to the next round of the NBA finals by beating the Miami Heat yesterday.
For the last 40 years my father, and others like him, have thrown their slipper at the TV on any given Saturday night watching the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Now, getting the first round draft pick gets lost in the sauce of winners we now have with the Jays and Raptors.
The Blue Jays are playing to 40,000 fans a home game on the success of last year, that hasn’t happened this early in the season for a long time.
Look around, they are selling plenty of Jays and Raptors gear.
Sports fans love a winner and will jump on any band wagon for the ride.
A hockey fan recently said to me of basketball.
Just watch the last 2 minutes, which take 20 minutes to play, and you’ve seen the whole game.
It’s like watching tennis back and forth, then all hell breaks loose at the end.
Which is kind of like saying hockey fans only watch for the fights or race fans for the car crashes.
In the end it’s all about competing, and everyone wants to be on a winning team, no matter what the sport.
