The RBG’s Rock Garden has reopened to the public following a 20 million dollar reconstruction.
CEO Mark Runciman says that in addition to the new visitor centre, they’ve updated the infrastructure, accessibility and landscape design.
Runciman notes that it is their oldest area, dating back some 80 years. He adds that the goal, which they believe they’ve achieved, is “a return to the glory days where there are lineups of people”.
He also looks forward to the rock garden being a “hub of activity” which areas for receptions, music and “Shakespeare in the garden” this summer.
The project started in 2012 with a $14 million commitment from the federal and provincial governments.
Philanthropists David Braley and Nancy Gordon then stepped in a lead donors for the community portion, matching all donations up to $2 million.
