The arrival of June means safety improvements on the Red Hill and Lincoln Expressway Parkway.
A series of measures, approved last December and to be phased-in over a couple of years, include trimming of vegetation, “cat’s eyes” pavement markings, rumble strips, oversized speed limit and other warning signs.
Councillor Chad Collins is optimistic they’ll make a difference, though his long-term goal is still to install more lighting along the highways.
He insists that poor lighting is a big issue, particularly where the LINC and Red Hill meet and especially during periods of bad weather.
Collins adds that “stepped up” police enforcement is also boosting safety, especially on Red Hill.
A safety assessment of the highways was undertaken in response to a number of serious collisions on the two roads.
