In the wake of the weekend heat wave in Hamilton, there is a move on council to try and get splash pads opened earlier in the year.
Councillor Matthew Green is making the proposal to change the current policy.
The city’s 61 splash pads are due to open the week of June 13 and Green’s idea is to use the weather instead as the marker.
He is suggesting it should be when there is a Stage 1 Heat Advisory which starts at 31 degrees.
Mayor Fred Eisenberger says the current policy was agreed upon with school boards who were concerned about students returning to class soaking wet, particularly because some splash pads are on school properties.
Councillor Brenda Johnson says she would be happy to second Green’s motion.
