Four and a half million visits each year and 360 million dollars in direct spending and that is where the impact of tourism begins.
Hamilton’s Economic Development General Manager Jason Thorne says tourism is an economic gateway for the city–a starting point for future growth.
Thorne points to the sports sector as a driver and it starts with minor sports organizers who bring their associations and tournaments to the city, filling hotels and restaurants.
Another key sector is entertainment including film and television production which also results in direct spending and in showing off what the area has to offer.
CHML is helping to focus on tourism with an all day live broadcast from the Lister Block, home base for Tourism Hamilton.
