I played soccer as a child.
And I’ve watched the beautiful game for as long as I can remember.
But last night was a first.
The place, Billy Sherring Park on the mountain.
The event, my son’s soccer practice, and I’m the coach.
Yes, I’ve taken the leap.
For the first time, I’m coaching a team.
I assembled the group of U12 boys last night for our one hour practice on the Hamilton Mountain pitch.
It was a spirited 60 minutes with an emphasis on dribbling and passing, mixed in with fun and positivity.
I, like many parents, had my reservations about getting into coaching.
Can I squeeze this added duty on my plate?
Will it be more of a headache than anything else?
Do I have what it takes to be a good coach?
It’s early days, and I don’t have the answers to all of those questions.
But I will say this, I have a new perspective on coaching and have nothing but high praise for anyone who volunteers to do so.
