Both the Liberals and Conservatives held policy conventions this past weekend and according to the delegates and spin doctors who attended, the fortunes of both Parties have never looked better.
I guess that happens when you play to a partisan crowd.
But , there were a couple of moments when the ugliness of partisan politics sullied the weekend.
Interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose was addressing the convention and suggested that Justin Trudeau was the first female Prime Minister of Canada.
Sadly, it was another in a series of personal insults that question the Prime Minister’s masculinity; it’s a cheap, juvenile stunt and rather surprising coming from Ambrose, who just the week before was calling for more civility in Parliament.
The other incident came from former Liberal Interim Leader Bob Rae, feigning a gagging motion as Prime Minister Trudeau paid tribute to Stephen Harper for his years of service.
Congratulating Harper on his career was a class act by the Prime Minister; Rae’s response was disrespectful and churlish.
For those who wonder why Canadians have such a low regard for politicians, they need look no further than this kind of insulting behavior.
