After years of dispute, it appears that a series of boarded up buildings alongside Gore Park will finally be redeveloped.
A “compromise” approved by the General Issues Committee allows a private developer to move ahead with a mixed-use project, in return for restoring some of the facades on the historic buildings.
Mayor Eisenberger says it’s “the best course of action in this particular instance”.
He stresses that it allows the city to move forward, and the developer to add value to the downtown while fixing “the gap in the Gore”.
Plans for 18-to-28 King Street East call for five-storey apartment buildings, with retail on the ground level.
