Mayor Fred Eisenberger is speaking out in favour of a national housing strategy.
At today’s Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Big City Mayors Caucus, Eisenberger reinforced its importance, noting that one in five Hamiltonians lives below the poverty line and one in four children lives in poverty.
There are also currently over 59 hundred households in the city on the social housing wait list — the highest the list has ever been, making affordable housing a major priority.
Eisenberger welcomes the recent 2016 federal budget announcement of funding for affordable housing and homelessness initiatives.
He says a national housing strategy is an opportunity for all levels of government to collaborate in providing affordable housing in Hamilton and across Canada.
