I know many of us have been worried sick about when City Council was going to update it’s vision statement.
Well, you can rest easy now; it looks like Council has finally dealt with this pressing priority.
Sarcasm ? You bet .
Hamilton now wants to be known as the Best Place To Raise A Child and Age Successfully…Really ?
Who makes this stuff up ?
They’ve dropped the old vision statement that talked about promoting innovation, engaging citizens and providing diverse economic activities; I guess they feel they don’t have to do that stuff anymore.
Besides, promoting innovation would mean having to make bold decisions on things like a 21st Century transit system, and clearly, some Councilors are uncomfortable doing that.
Seriously, with all of the other burning issues facing our City, is this the best use of Council and Staff’s time ?
I’ve always thought that the whole idea of vision statements is a hollow, feel good exercise that doesn’t carry any real value.
If City Council needs a catch phrase to remind them how to do their jobs, we have a bigger problem.
Anyway, if you were to ask the citizens of our great city what their vision statement would be, they’d likely say ‘ A City Where The Councilors Care More About Hamilton’s Future Than Their Own Chances of Getting Re-Elected’.
Now that’s a vision statement !
