What is happening with the Tragically Hip and the ticketing of their farewell tour is both ‘tragic’ and ‘hip’.
‘Tragic’ obviously because a few are trying desperately to profit off of what is supposed to be a sensitive occasion.
As much a memorial, or celebration of life, as it is a concert tour.
‘Hip’, is being on line to get the latest and greatest you can get for your money.
‘Hip’, is the chance for the user to be both the retailer and customer. A chance to be a modern day barterer.
Are the higher prices being charged for resale concert tickets any different than price surging with Uber?
It’s simply supply and demand but, it’s now in the user’s hands.
When the internet started it was all about control, getting what you want when you want.
Shifting the control away from the establishment and into the hands of the consumer.
Now the internet, technology, entrepreneurs, start-ups, whatever you want to call them, have become the modern day establishment.
Except now it’s the user or consumer who controls the greed, and is just as responsible for it.
