There’s a delay in the sentencing of a Brampton man who sparked days of chaos when he slammed the raised bed of his dumptruck into the superstructure atop the Burlington Skyway.
Prosecutors want Sukhvinder Rai to spend one year in jail, and receive a three-year driving ban, after he was convicted of dangerous driving. His defence is recommending house arrest.
The sentencing hearing has been delayed until July.18th so that victims can gather documents showing how much money the crash has cost them, in terms of things like lost wages and vehicle repairs.
Three people were injured as a result of the crash while the skyway needed over 1.3 million dollars in repairs after being closed for several days in July of 2014.
While he has been convicted of dangerous driving, Rai was found not guilty of mischief endangering life and impaired driving charges were thrown out during his trial.
The judge ruled breath tests, which indicated Rai had more than two times the legal limit of alcohol in his bloodstream, were mishandled by the O.P.P. and deemed them “inadmissable”.
