Hamilton politicians have voted to investigate a 3-1-1 system.
Staff will bring back a report to the audit, finance and administration committee, and if it is adopted, residents would be able to use the number to call in service issues such as pot holes, problems with street lights and other service issues.
Councillor Terry Whitehead notes that Boston is one city that already operates 3-1-1 successfully, partnering it with a Twitter response to complaints as they are addressed.
He says that’s about customer service, which is what we’re supposed to be about.
The motion was presented by Ward 4’s Sam Merulla, who first proposed the idea in 2004. He says “better late than never”.
