Three key businesses in Hamilton’s International Village have a suggestion for the city and its proposed light rail transit.
They want it moved from King Street to Main.
Denninger’s Foods, the Black Forest Inn and G.W. Thompson Jeweller say Main Street is straighter and wider, and could negate the need for a dedicated LRT bridge over the 403.
They’ve made the suggestion in a letter to Ward 2 Councillor Jason Farr.
They believe years of LRT construction threaten to turn the International Village into a “dead zone” as businesses close.
The suggestion goes against what Metrolinx believes.
The provincial transportation agency has said it chose King Street because it brings more economic uplift than Main.
