This could be the headline of the year.
Johnny Manziel getting read to play in 2016.
Is this for real?
The headline was not on The Onion, or another mock news website, it’s true.
Manziel’s lawyer, Jim Darnell, says “Johnny Football” is getting ready.
But word is the former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, who spent a couple of rocky seasons in Cleveland, realizes he’s more likely to get another shot in 2017.
But before he does, Manziel has a lot of work to do.
And I’m not talking about his game.
Manziel was indicted on a misdemeanour assault charge in April, he’s being sued for allegedly trashing a $4.5-million rental home in L.A., two agents have fired him, and for a guy with a drinking problem he’s not avoiding the red zone — again, not the one on the field.
He has visited nightclubs and bars, partied with Leonardo DiCaprio, and was a passenger in a hit-and-run.
Never mind that the jury is still out on whether Manziel can still play football at this level, what NFL team will be willing to take a shot at someone who has shown very little respect for himself and others?
