Start the Cycle is once again working with community partners to introduce healthy transportation options to kids this summer.
The Red Hill and Barton street library branches were the first to work with the start up to develop the idea that you could borrow a bike like you would a book.
This year a new fleet of 10 bikes has rolled into the Westmount and Huntington Park Recreation centres.
Director, Shiloh Covey says this program is geared towards kids 7 to 15 as a way of integrating healthy activities early.
“Even if kids are just riding a bike from their house to a friend’s house to go play video games that’s still integrating at least ten minutes more of physical activity into their day.
The bike share is free and will run until labour day weekend.
Covey is optimistic that this pilot project will take off and not only return next summer to Hamilton but to cities across the GTHA.
