Improvements are on the way to ensure that pedestrians and cyclists can safely cross Wentworth Street at the escarpment rail trail.
Ward 2 Councillor Jason Farr’s pitch for a pedestrian light near the hairpin turn has received unanimous verbal support from members of the public works committee.
Some actually suggest going a step further and building a 535 thousand dollar pedestrian bridge over the busy road.
Farr suggests area residents will be thrilled either way. He stresses that a pedestrian light will go over like “gangbusters” while a bridge would “far surpass the euphoria”.
Whatever is built at the trail crossing, where a 33 year old runner was struck and killed in the fall of 2013, will be paid for with red light camera revenues.
