What a horrific weekend !
Fifty people murdered and over fifty more wounded by a crazed gunman in an Orlando nightclub.
It’s being called the worst mass murder in U.S history.
Yet, in spite of the sorrow expressed about this needless loss of life, the usual response from American lawmakers makes this tragedy even more sickening.
The man was unbalanced, they say; don’t blame the guns, they say.
It makes you wonder when, if ever, Americans will wake up to the fact that easy access to guns continues to kill innocent people.
The shooter was known to authorities.
He purchased the guns legally just a little while ago and yes, it’s legal to buy an assault rifle in Florida.
The President will once again call for gun control but his plea will fall on deaf ears.
Sombre faced politicians will mourn the dead and hypocritically suggest that nothing could have been done to prevent this deadly act.
The victims of this latest mass killing will be tallied alongside the innocent children of Sandy Hook and countless other incidents of senseless murders.
Until Americans realize that allowing almost anyone access to weapons of mass destruction , this senseless carnage will continue , and that is the greatest tragedy of all.
